Microwave-Enhanced Conversion of Crude Oil and Naphtha to High-Value Chemicals

Materials and nanotechnology

Project Description

The overriding aim of this project is to directly convert crude oil and naphtha to high-value chemicals in a single operational unit using microwaves as the effective heating tool. Phase I of the project is to establish a laboratory-scale demonstration of electromagnetically-enhanced conversion of crude oil and naphtha to specific, targeted high-value chemicals. Phase I will also be accompanied by a developing techno-economical assessment of the emerging novel manufacturing processes in close collaboration with the Saudi Aramco “Oil To Chemicals” R&D team. An important objective will also be the establishment of “spin-out” companies arising from innovation and development through IP and Patents from the joint project.
